Description
Raveneau’s Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2006 is a benchmark expression of Chardonnay from one of Chablis’ most coveted sites. Known for its precision, mineral depth, and remarkable ageing ability, it reflects both the purity of the Blanchot climat and the singular reputation of Domaine Raveneau. The estate has long been regarded as one of the finest in Chablis, producing wines of rare finesse and longevity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru typically shows a brilliant, mature gold hue with a refined, luminous clarity. The nose is layered and complex, with white flowers, citrus zest, ripe orchard fruit, oyster shell, wet stone, and subtle notes of honey, hazelnut, and toasted brioche developing with age.
On the palate, it is likely to be concentrated yet impeccably poised, combining Chablis’ signature chalky minerality with tense acidity, saline freshness, and a long, elegant finish. The 2006 vintage should now be entering a beautiful drinking window, but wines from Raveneau are renowned for their longevity and can continue to evolve gracefully for many more years.
Production
The Blanchot Grand Cru lies on the eastern side of the Chablis Grand Cru slope, where Kimmeridgian limestone soils help shape the site’s distinctive mineral profile. Raveneau is known for meticulous farming and restrained winemaking, typically emphasizing low yields, careful hand harvesting, and traditional vinification that allows the terroir to speak with clarity. The result is a wine of purity, texture, and depth rather than overt oak influence.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for fine seafood such as lobster, scallops, turbot, or oysters, as well as poultry in creamy sauces, veal, or delicate mushroom dishes. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if it shows tightly after opening, especially given its age and complexity.
Producer
Domaine Raveneau is one of the most respected producers in Chablis and a name that carries exceptional weight among collectors and sommeliers. Founded in the mid-20th century, the estate built its reputation on low-volume, high-quality production from top vineyards, with a steadfast commitment to expressing terroir rather than chasing trends. Its wines are widely celebrated for their precision, depth, and extraordinary ageing potential.
