Description
Cecchi Lo Spargolo 1990 is a refined Tuscan red that brings together Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino in a classic expression of the region. It offers the kind of depth and elegance collectors and fine-wine lovers look for in mature Italian wine, with a long, graceful evolution in bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour with mature garnet tones, reflecting its age and development. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe dark fruit, warming spice, tobacco, and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and complex, with balanced acidity, well-integrated tannins, and a long, satisfying finish that still retains freshness and structure.
With more than three decades of age, this wine is at a beautifully mature stage, though its balance and composure suggest it can still hold interest for further cellaring if stored properly. It is best enjoyed now for its full aromatic complexity and soft, evolved texture.
Production
Produced in Tuscany from a traditional blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino, Lo Spargolo reflects the character of classic regional winemaking. The grapes come from a terroir shaped by Tuscany’s rolling hills, warm days, and cooling nights, which help preserve acidity and support elegant ripening. Vinification follows a conventional red-wine approach, with fermentation and ageing designed to build structure, deepen flavour, and allow the wine to develop complexity over time.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast or grilled red meats, game, and aged cheeses, where its structure and savoury depth can really shine. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to let the mature aromas open fully and soften any remaining edges.
Producer
Cecchi is one of Tuscany’s respected family-owned wine producers, with a long history of crafting wines that reflect the identity of the region. The estate has built a strong reputation for quality and consistency, and its wines have helped showcase the appeal of Tuscan reds to an international audience.
