Description
Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico 2023 is a classic expression of Tuscany, crafted from carefully selected vineyard parcels chosen for their ability to age gracefully in large 50 hl casks. Built around 90% Sangiovese with supporting Canaiolo Nero and Colorino, it combines freshness, structure, and regional character in a style that reflects the heritage of Chianti Classico.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the bright, vivid ruby color typical of youthful Chianti Classico. The nose is elegant and inviting, with lifted cherry and red berry fruit, floral notes, and the subtle earthy-spicy accents that are so characteristic of Sangiovese.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and lively, with crisp acidity, refined tannins, and a savoury, mineral-driven finish. The oak aging is intentionally discreet, supporting the wine’s balance rather than dominating it. While already enjoyable now, it should continue to develop nuance over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from selected vineyards within Castello di Monsanto’s estate, chosen specifically for their suitability for maturation in large-format oak. After harvest, the wine is vinified in stainless steel for around 18 days to preserve purity and freshness, before spending 12 months in 50 hl Slavonian oak casks. A further three months of bottle refinement helps bring the components together before release.
Food & Serving
This Chianti Classico pairs beautifully with Tuscan cuisine, including pasta with tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, roasted chicken, and aged pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C to bring out its aromatic clarity and food-friendly structure. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant can help if opening the wine young.

Castello di Monsanto is one of the most respected names in Chianti Classico, known for championing traditional Tuscan winemaking and helping define the modern identity of the region. The estate has built a strong reputation for elegant, age-worthy Sangiovese-based wines, and its commitment to large-cask maturation remains a hallmark of its style.
