Castelfeder Kreuzweg Reserva 2022 is a serious, terroir-driven Chardonnay from the historic Kreuzweg vineyard in Margreid, Alto Adige. It combines purity, elegance, and concentration, with subtle oak adding depth rather than overpowering the wine’s distinctive alpine character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a clear golden hue that hints at its ripeness and structure. The nose is complex and refined, opening with ripe apple, citrus, gooseberry, and light tropical nuances, layered with flinty notes, hazelnut, and a delicate touch of vanilla from barrel ageing. The palate is full-bodied yet precise, with a creamy texture, impressive concentration, and a linear mineral acidity that keeps the wine fresh and focused. The oak is beautifully integrated, supporting the wine’s shape without dominating the fruit. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by ripe orchard fruit and cool, stony minerality. This is a Chardonnay with excellent ageing potential and the depth to evolve gracefully over time.

Kreuzweg is a historic vineyard site in Margreid, one of the warmest and most distinctive areas of Alto Adige, where mountain influences, limestone-rich soils, and excellent exposure help shape wines with both ripeness and tension. The grapes are harvested carefully to preserve freshness and precision, and vinification includes barrel ageing that adds subtle complexity while maintaining the vineyard’s clear sense of place.

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as grilled lobster, roast chicken, veal, creamy risotto, or rich seafood pasta. Serve it chilled at around 10-12°C to allow both its freshness and complexity to shine, and decanting is not necessary, though a little time in the glass will help the wine open up.
