Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera’s 2021 Sangiovese is a highly anticipated Toscana IGT from one of Tuscany’s most revered artisanal estates. Tasted from botte No. 10 at the winery, it already displays the luminous elegance, aromatic complexity and profound sense of place that define the Soldera style. The wine is still evolving, with its final blend and bottling to come.

Tasting Notes
Bright and radiant in appearance, the 2021 opens with lifted aromas of fresh red berries and redcurrants, followed by old-fashioned rose, liquorice root and a refined mineral note reminiscent of wet slate and petrichor. The aromatics are finely woven, expressive and remarkably persistent.

Production
Made from 100% Sangiovese, the 2021 growing season included a significant frost event on 6–7 April, followed by largely normal spring conditions and a warm summer. Harvest began on 6 September. At the time of tasting in November 2024, the wine was still maturing in botte No. 10; the final cuvée was to be assembled before returning to botte ahead of bottling. As a cask sample, its final character and release timing may still evolve.

Food & Serving
Its freshness, structure and savoury mineral character make it an excellent match for Tuscan-inspired dishes such as wild boar ragù, roast veal, herb-crusted lamb and grilled or braised beef. It will also pair beautifully with aged pecorino and other mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Once bottled and released, decanting for one to two hours should help reveal its aromatic detail, while older bottles are best handled gently to preserve their fragrance.
