This IGT bottling draws on younger vines and select parcels, showcasing the freshness and charm of Sangiovese from southern Tuscany without the structure of a full Brunello.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Irrosso 2019 shows a vibrant ruby-red colour with garnet hues at the rim. The nose opens with wild berries and ripe blackberries, followed by notes of walnut, dried herbs, tree bark and a subtle undergrowth character. Hints of lavender, violets and a touch of dark truffle add complexity and a distinctly Tuscan flair. On the palate, the wine is medium to medium-full bodied, soft and juicy yet structured, with polished, firm tannins that give it a confident backbone. Flavours of red and black berries are layered with savoury mineral notes, earthy spice and a gentle balsamic twist. The finish is medium in length, clean and slightly tight in its youth, suggesting that the wine will gain further harmony over the next few years. While already enjoyable, it will drink at its best from now through the mid-2020s.

Production
Irrosso 2019 is sourced from Casanova di Neri’s vineyards in Montalcino and the surrounding Tuscan hills, where Sangiovese thrives in a mix of galestro (shaly marl), limestone and clay soils at varying altitudes. These well-drained, mineral-rich sites contribute both aromatic lift and depth of flavour. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve fruit purity, followed by maturation in a combination of large casks and/or used oak to soften the tannins without overwhelming the wine’s fresh, varietal character. The result is a polished yet accessible expression of Tuscan Sangiovese with a modern, drinkable profile.
