Description
Casanova di Neri IRRose 2023 is a refined Tuscan rosé that showcases Sangiovese in a fresh, modern expression. First produced with the 2018 harvest, this wine combines the grape’s natural concentration and fine texture with a vibrant sense of purity and elegance. It’s a rosé designed not just for easy sipping, but to reflect the character and pedigree of one of Montalcino’s most respected estates.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, IRRose 2023 typically shines a delicate, pale onion-skin to soft salmon hue, hinting at a lighter extraction that prioritizes finesse over power. The nose is precise and inviting, with notes of wild strawberries, pink grapefruit, pomegranate and white cherries, layered with delicate floral tones of rose petal and a subtle hint of Mediterranean herbs.
On the palate, the wine is crisp and linear yet surprisingly textural for a rosé made from Sangiovese. Juicy red berry fruit meets citrus zest and a touch of blood orange, framed by a mouthwatering acidity and a gentle, chalky minerality that speaks of its Tuscan origins. The finish is clean, dry and persistent, with a lingering impression of red fruits and subtle spice. Best enjoyed in its youth over the next 1–3 years for maximum freshness and vibrancy.
Production
IRRose is crafted from 100% Sangiovese grown in Casanova di Neri’s estate vineyards in Tuscany, where sun-drenched days, cool nights and well-drained, mineral-rich soils bring both ripeness and precision to the fruit. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness for rosé, ensuring vibrant acidity and aromatic intensity. In the cellar, a gentle and relatively brief maceration on the skins provides the wine’s delicate color and fine structure before the juice is drawn off and fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to preserve purity, freshness and the varietal character of Sangiovese. The wine is then aged briefly on its fine lees to enhance texture and complexity while keeping the style effortlessly drinkable.
Food & Serving
Casanova di Neri IRRose 2023 is an excellent partner for light Mediterranean dishes such as grilled prawns, octopus salad, bruschetta with ripe tomatoes, and prosciutto with melon. It also works beautifully with sushi, salads with fresh herbs, soft cheeses and simple pasta or risotto with seasonal vegetables. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the wine a few minutes in the glass will help its delicate aromatics fully open.
Producer
Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, Casanova di Neri has become one of Montalcino’s most acclaimed estates, known worldwide for its benchmark Brunello di Montalcino and single-vineyard expressions.
