Description

Casa Lupo Amarone della Valpolicella 2020 is a rich, full-bodied red from Veneto that showcases the classic power and elegance of Amarone. Crafted from partially dried Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, it delivers depth, concentration and a long, warming finish. This wine captures the traditional soul of Valpolicella while benefiting from Paladin’s meticulous approach to modern winemaking, making it a standout choice for those seeking a truly expressive Italian red.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Casa Lupo Amarone della Valpolicella 2020 shows a deep, garnet-red colour with ruby highlights at the rim, hinting at both youth and intensity. The nose is generous and layered, with aromas of ripe dark cherries, dried figs, plums and blackberries, interwoven with notes of cocoa, sweet spices, vanilla, tobacco and a touch of balsamic and dried herbs typical of Amarone. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with a rich core of dark fruit, chocolate-covered cherries and dried fruit, supported by well-integrated tannins and a pleasant, warming alcohol. Hints of licorice, clove and roasted coffee add complexity toward the finish, which is long, smooth and slightly savoury. The 2020 vintage is approachable now with some air, but it also has the structure to develop further complexity over the next 8–12 years when properly cellared.

Production
Casa Lupo Amarone della Valpolicella 2020 is born from vineyards in Veneto’s Valpolicella area, where hillside sites, calcareous and marl-rich soils and good diurnal temperature swings help preserve aromatics and acidity. The Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, selecting only the healthiest bunches suitable for the appassimento process. After harvest, the grapes are traditionally laid out in ventilated drying rooms for several weeks to months, concentrating sugars, flavours and phenolics. Once the desired level of drying is reached, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented slowly at controlled temperatures to manage the high potential alcohol and preserve aromatic purity. The wine then matures in a combination of oak (often large casks and/or barriques) and bottle to refine tannins, gain complexity and integrate its generous body and texture.

Food & Serving
This Amarone is a natural partner for rich, flavourful dishes such as braised beef, osso buco, slow-cooked lamb shanks, game stews and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano. It also works beautifully with truffle risotto, mushroom-based dishes and dark chocolate with high cocoa content for a contemplative end to a meal. Serve Casa Lupo Amarone della Valpolicella 2020 at around 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decant for at least 1–2 hours before serving to allow the aromas to open and the tannins to soften, especially in its youth.
