Casa Cadaval Reserva 2021 is a distinctive Portuguese red that brings together the estate’s Atlantic-influenced freshness with the depth and structure of a carefully selected blend. Produced on one of the most historic properties in Tejo, it reflects both the character of the land and the long family tradition behind the estate.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Reserva shows a deep, inviting red colour. The nose opens with dark berry notes, especially blackcurrant, layered with cocoa and warm spice. On the palate, it is round and full-bodied, with pronounced structure and smooth, well-integrated tannins. The wine feels balanced and refined, with a fresh, mineral edge that adds elegance and helps support good ageing potential over the coming years.

Production
Casa Cadaval’s vineyards are planted on the former delta of the Tejo River, where poor sandy topsoil sits above a deeper clay layer. This low-fertility soil encourages deep root growth and naturally limits yield, helping to concentrate fruit quality. The estate’s maritime-influenced terroir also contributes a subtle mineral freshness to the wines. This Reserva is based on a strong blend of Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira, and Alfrocheiro, and is aged for 12 months in oak to build complexity and texture.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled beef, game, or richly flavoured Mediterranean dishes such as herb-crusted pork or lamb stew. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30 minutes if you want to soften the tannins and open up the aromatic layers.

Casa Cadaval is one of Portugal’s most notable historic estates, located in Muge, northeast of Lisbon, in the Tejo wine region. Beyond viticulture, the estate is internationally known for breeding thoroughbred horses and includes vineyards, stables, a riding arena, and a palace. Remarkably, it has been managed by five consecutive generations of women, and today remains a respected name in the region for its balance of tradition, agriculture, and wine production.
