Tasting Notes
In the glass, Capbern 2022 shows a deep, vibrant ruby-purple hue, hinting at both youth and intensity. The nose opens with dark berries and ripe black cherries, layered with notes of licorice, clay-rich earth and a touch of graphite, giving a distinctly Médoc character. Subtle hints of spice and dried herbs emerge with air, adding further complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and succulent, with a core of dark plum, cassis and black cherry supported by those trademark Saint-Estèphe earthy undertones. The texture is fleshy yet structured, with ripe, fine-grained, almost powdery tannins that provide grip without harshness. The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, licorice and warm earth. Production
Capbern 2022 comes from the gravel and clay-limestone soils of Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux, a terroir known for producing structured, long-lived Cabernet-based wines. The 2022 blend is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, with the remainder Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, harvested between 6 and 27 September to capture both ripeness and freshness. Grapes are carefully sorted before fermentation, typically in temperature-controlled vats to allow a gentle, precise extraction of color, aroma and tannin. The wine is then matured in oak (often with a significant proportion of French barriques) to refine the tannins, add subtle spice and support the wine’s aging potential without overwhelming its fruit-driven character.

Food & Serving
Capbern 2022 is a natural partner for classic hearty dishes: think roasted lamb with herbs, grilled ribeye, duck breast, or slow-braised beef. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses such as Comté or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both fruit and structure. For current drinking, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics to open and the tannins to soften; as it gains bottle age, a shorter decant will generally suffice to remove any sediment and awaken the bouquet.
