Cantine Torrevento’s Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva Ottagono 2014 is a characterful red from the heart of northern Puglia, made to showcase the native Nero di Troia grape at its most expressive. Sourced from vineyards at the foot of Castel del Monte and shaped by a long tradition of rustic, terroir-driven winemaking, it reflects both the history and the sustainability-focused future of this historic estate.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red color with violet reflections. The nose opens with blackcurrant and subtle spicy nuances, leading to a palate that is full-bodied, fruit-forward, and richly layered. The long maturation in large oak casks adds depth and harmony, giving the wine a rounded finish with generous fruit and a polished structure. This is a red with good cellaring potential, especially for those who enjoy mature southern Italian wines with a robust profile.

Production
Produced in the Torre del Vento area in the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, this wine comes from a terroir ideally suited to viticulture thanks to its natural balance and distinctive local conditions. The grapes are harvested in early November, allowing for full ripeness, and the wine undergoes fermentation followed by extended aging for 12 months in large oak casks, with a total maturation period of around 8 months before or alongside oak refinement as part of the Riserva style.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for richly flavored dishes, including red meat, game, and mature cheeses. Serve it at 16-18°C to bring out its structure and aromatic complexity, and decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open fully and soften its firm edges.
