Description
Cantine Terlano’s Alto Adige Sauvignon Winkl 2025 is a fresh, expressive white wine shaped by the distinctive alpine character of Alto Adige. Combining fragrant elderflower and gooseberry with vibrant acidity, pronounced minerality and an elegant finish, it reflects the precision and longevity for which Terlano wines are renowned.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, pale appearance, while the nose opens with inviting aromas of elderflower, ripe gooseberry and fresh citrus. On the palate, it is lively and finely structured, with crisp acidity, clear mineral notes and a long, refined finish. Its freshness makes it enjoyable in its youth, while the mineral backbone and fine lees ageing should allow it to develop additional complexity over the coming years.
Production
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are manually harvested and carefully selected before gentle pressing. The must is clarified through natural settling, followed by a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for seven to eight months on its fine lees: approximately 80% in stainless steel tanks and 20% in large wooden casks, combining freshness with added texture and subtle depth.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its bright acidity and mineral character make it an excellent match for oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, sushi and fresh goat’s cheese, while its aromatic profile also complements asparagus, green vegetables and light poultry dishes. Decanting is not necessary, although allowing the wine to breathe briefly in the glass can reveal more of its floral and citrus character.
Producer
Founded in 1893, Cantine Terlano is one of Alto Adige’s most respected wine cooperatives and has built an international reputation for precise, age-worthy white wines. Based in the Alto Adige region of northern Italy, the winery is particularly celebrated for expressing the area’s mineral-rich soils and cool alpine climate. Its careful vineyard selection, restrained winemaking and long-standing focus on quality have made Terlano a benchmark producer for Sauvignon Blanc and other white varieties from the region.
