Crafted from Sangiovese and matured for 36 months in Slavonian oak, it combines ripe fruit, lively acidity and impressive length with the elegant, structured profile expected from a fine Brunello.

Tasting Notes
Bright and clear in the glass, this Brunello opens with aromas of ripe red and dark fruit complemented by balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is lively and full-bodied, yet remarkably refined, with a delicate texture, vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. The oak is well integrated, allowing the character of the fruit and terroir to remain at the centre. With its structure and freshness, the 2020 vintage should develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years and can reward cellaring for a decade or more.

Production
The grapes come from the Montosoli area in the northern part of Montalcino, where differences in elevation, exposure and soil contribute to the distinctive expression of Sangiovese. At Canalicchio di Sopra, the fruit is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with gentle daily pump-overs, followed by 25 days of maceration on the skins. The wine is then matured for 36 months in Slavonian oak casks, giving it depth and polish while preserving its natural freshness.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for classic Tuscan cuisine, this Brunello is well suited to bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-cooked beef, roast lamb, game and richly flavoured pasta dishes. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting for approximately one to two hours is recommended when enjoyed young, while older bottles should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment.

Producer
Founded by Primo Pacenti in 1962, Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra is a family estate with three generations of winemaking heritage in Montalcino. The property covers 60 hectares, including 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves, with vines planted in both Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli. The estate combines modern cellar technology with respect for traditional methods and the surrounding environment, carefully bringing together Sangiovese from its different vineyard sites to create wines of depth, balance and regional character.
