Canalicchio di Sopra’s Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 is a refined and concentrated expression of Sangiovese from one of Montalcino’s historic estates. Combining fruit from the Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli vineyards, it stands out for its depth, elegant structure, bright acidity and beautifully integrated tannins. The estate was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and remains dedicated to combining modern winemaking with respect for tradition and nature.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with the garnet nuances that develop naturally in a mature Brunello. Its complex nose opens with aromas of black cherries, tobacco and balsamic notes, followed by subtle layers of spice and dried herbs. On the palate, it is beautifully concentrated yet balanced, with ripe dark-fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and soft, finely textured tannins. The long, savoury finish reveals the wine’s depth and complexity. As a Riserva from the 2019 vintage, it has excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop greater aromatic complexity and harmony over the next decade or more when properly cellared.

Production
The estate’s vineyards lie in the northern part of Montalcino, in the distinct areas of Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli. Differences in elevation, exposure and soil contribute different expressions of Sangiovese, which are carefully blended in the cellar to create a balanced and complex Brunello. Canalicchio di Sopra farms approximately 15 hectares of vineyards across its 60-hectare property, working with modern technology while maintaining respect for traditional methods and the surrounding environment. Specific harvesting and vinification details for this bottling are not provided.

Food & Serving
Enjoy this Brunello with rich and savoury dishes such as Tuscan beef stew, wild boar ragù, roasted lamb, grilled steak, aged Pecorino or mature Parmesan. Serve at approximately 18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. Decant for around one to two hours before serving to open the wine’s aromas and soften its structure, particularly when drinking it young.

Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and is now run by the third generation of the family. Located in northern Montalcino, the estate owns 60 hectares of land, including 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves. Its wines are shaped by the distinct character of its two vineyard areas and by a philosophy that brings together generations of experience, careful craftsmanship, modern technology and respect for long-established traditions.
