Canalicchio di Sopra’s Brunello di Montalcino La Casaccia 2020 is a refined expression of Sangiovese from the northern part of Montalcino. Concentrated yet graceful, it combines dark cherry fruit, aromatic complexity, supple tannins and lively acidity. The estate was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and has remained dedicated to Brunello across three generations.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, black cherries mingle with tobacco, balsamic nuances and subtle earthy complexity. The palate is beautifully concentrated, with layers of ripe dark fruit, polished tannins and a refreshing vein of acidity that gives the wine balance and length. Its structure and freshness make the 2020 vintage appealing now with decanting, while the wine should develop greater savoury and tertiary complexity over the next decade or more when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
Canalicchio di Sopra owns approximately 60 hectares in Montalcino, including 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves. The vines are planted in the estate’s two distinct areas, Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli, where differences in elevation, exposure and soil contribute distinct expressions of Sangiovese. These components are carefully brought together in the cellar, combining modern technology with traditional methods and respect for the surrounding nature. Food & Serving
A natural partner for Tuscan cuisine, this Brunello is well suited to braised beef, roasted lamb, wild boar ragù, mature hard cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at approximately 18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to come up gradually from cellar temperature. Decant for around one to two hours before serving to open the aromas and soften the wine’s structure.
