Canalicchio di Sopra’s Brunello di Montalcino La Casaccia 2018 is a refined expression of Sangiovese from one of Montalcino’s historic estates. Made in the northern part of the appellation, it combines the character of a distinguished vineyard site with the estate’s traditional approach and careful modern winemaking. The vintage is part of a long family history dating back to the winery’s foundation in 1962.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red with developing garnet hues, this Brunello offers an expressive nose of ripe red cherries, wild berries and violets, complemented by notes of dried herbs, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. On the palate, it is structured and elegant, with concentrated fruit, refreshing acidity and firm, polished tannins. Savoury nuances and a persistent finish add complexity, while the wine’s balance gives it excellent potential for further development in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the northern part of Montalcino, where the estate’s vineyards benefit from a combination of elevation, good ventilation and varied soils. Canalicchio di Sopra works with Sangiovese from its vineyards in Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli, blending the differing expressions of the sites to create harmony and depth. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified with respect for traditional Brunello practices, supported by modern cellar technology; extended maturation allows the wine to develop its structure, aromatic complexity and ageing potential.

Food & Serving
Enjoy this Brunello with Tuscan specialities such as bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-cooked beef, wild boar ragù and roasted game. It also pairs beautifully with mature Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at approximately 18°C, ideally after allowing the bottle to breathe for 30–60 minutes. Decanting is recommended for the 2018 vintage, particularly when serving it young, to soften the tannins and open the aromas.

Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra was founded by Primo Pacenti in 1962 and remains a family-run estate with three generations of experience behind it. Located in northern Montalcino, the property covers 60 hectares, including 15 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves. The estate is recognised for combining respect for nature and longstanding traditions with carefully applied modern technology, while its separate vineyard sites provide the foundation for distinctive and balanced Sangiovese wines.
