Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 vintage is typically deep ruby in colour, with a youthful, polished sheen. The nose is layered and refined, opening with blackcurrant, plum and graphite, followed by cedar, violets, tobacco leaf and subtle spice. On the palate, it shows the hallmark Saint-Estèphe framework: firm yet well-integrated tannins, fresh acidity and a concentrated core of dark fruit balanced by savoury minerality. The finish is long and composed, with plenty of potential to evolve beautifully over the next 10–20 years, gaining complexity and silkiness with time.

Production
Calon Ségur sits on gravelly, clay-limestone soils in Saint-Estèphe, where the cool maritime influence of Bordeaux helps preserve freshness and definition in the fruit. The estate’s vineyards are carefully managed parcel by parcel, with selective harvesting to capture optimal ripeness and preserve the character of each block. Vinification is carried out with precision to build structure and purity, followed by ageing in French oak to integrate tannins and add depth without masking the wine’s core identity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, and dishes with earthy components such as mushrooms or truffles. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to allow the bouquet and texture to open fully.
