Calon Segur 3ème Grand Cru Classé Saint-Estèphe, 2019

Calon Ségur 2019 is a classic Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates, combining power, precision and unmistakable Left Bank character. With its Grand Cru Classé pedigree, it offers the depth and structure collectors look for, alongside the charm and freshness of an excellent vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to garnet hue, with remarkable concentration for the vintage. The nose is layered with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite and subtle floral tones, unfolding with hints of spice and tobacco as it opens. On the palate, Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way with firm yet polished tannins, supported by Merlot’s roundness and Cabernet Franc’s lift and aromatic detail. The wine is full-bodied, precise and refined, with a savory mineral edge and a long, structured finish. It has excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the coming decades.

Production
Sourced from the gravelly, clay-limestone soils of Saint-Estèphe, the wine reflects the estate’s cool maritime terroir, which helps preserve freshness and balance. The grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, then vinified with careful extraction to preserve purity, structure and site expression.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for roast lamb, grilled ribeye, venison, duck breast or slow-braised beef dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth to fully reveal its aromatic depth and soften the tannins.
