Description
Ca' del Bosco Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige is a refined traditional-method sparkling wine from the hills between Brescia and Bergamo, near Lake Iseo. Benefiting from the cooling influence of the mountains and the lake, it delivers a poised, elegant style that has become a serious rival to many Champagnes. Crafted from the same noble grape varieties and matured extensively on the lees, this cuvée marries youthful energy with complexity from reserve wines, resulting in a dry, fruit-driven and remarkably polished expression of Franciacorta.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cuvée Prestige typically shows a luminous straw-yellow hue with subtle golden reflections and an exceptionally fine, persistent perlage. The bubbles are delicate yet continuous, forming a refined mousse that immediately signals quality.
On the nose, expect an inviting bouquet of crisp green apple, pear and citrus zest, layered with hints of white flowers, almond, and fresh brioche from its extended aging on the lees. There are often subtler undertones of stone fruit and a gentle minerality that recall its hillside origin. The palate is dry and precise, with a vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh and mouthwatering. Flavors echo the nose: orchard fruits, lemon curd, and a touch of ripe berries, supported by a creamy, fine-textured mousse and a graceful, almost saline finish. Thanks to its time on the lees—typically 25 to 37 months—this Franciacorta combines immediacy and charm with enough structure to evolve nicely over a few years, developing more toasty, nutty complexity if cellared for 3–5 years.
Production
Ca' del Bosco Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige is produced from carefully selected hillside vineyards in Franciacorta, an area whose glacially derived, mineral-rich soils and temperate climate are moderated by nearby Lake Iseo. These conditions, combined with good diurnal temperature swings, help grapes such as Chardonnay (the backbone of the cuvée), alongside Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero, ripen fully while preserving acidity and aromatic finesse. Grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted before undergoing gentle pressing, often parcel by parcel, to preserve purity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled conditions, and the final blend is crafted from a selection of young base wines and refined reserve wines to ensure the signature Ca’ del Bosco style and consistency. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle following the metodo tradizionale, with an extended aging of approximately 25 to 37 months on the lees, developing texture, complexity, and its trademark fine, persistent perlage before disgorgement.
Food & Serving
This Franciacorta is wonderfully versatile at the table and an excellent choice both as an aperitif and throughout a meal. Pair it with oysters, scallop carpaccio, or shrimp tartare to highlight its brightness, or serve alongside sushi, lightly fried seafood, and delicately seasoned fish dishes. It also complements poultry, creamy risottos, fresh cheeses, and charcuterie with ease. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to accentuate its freshness and fine bubbles. While decanting is not necessary, opening the bottle a few minutes before serving and pouring into proper sparkling wine flutes or tulip-shaped glasses will allow its aromas to fully unfold.
Producer
Ca’ del Bosco, owned and driven by Maurizio Zanella, is widely regarded as one of Italy’s benchmark producers of metodo tradizionale sparkling wine. Founded on the rolling hills of Franciacorta and now encompassing around 160 hectares of vineyards, the estate played a pivotal role in the region’s rise to prominence and the attainment of DOCG status for its traditional-method sparkling wines in 1995. Zanella’s vision, combining meticulous vineyard work with cutting-edge cellar technology housed in a strikingly modern winery, has helped redefine the image of Italian sparkling wine on the world stage. With an impressive record of top scores in Italy’s influential Gambero Rosso guide, Ca’ del Bosco stands as one of the country’s most acclaimed and innovative wineries, recognized for its precision, consistency, and unwavering commitment to quality.
