Description

Burmester White Port is a bright, refreshing expression of Portugal’s classic fortified wine style, offering a more delicate and floral alternative to ruby or tawny Port. Made by one of the historic Port houses, it combines lively freshness with a smooth, balanced finish and is especially well suited to aperitif service.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a lively lemon colour with attractive greenish reflections. Its aromatic profile is rich and complex, led by floral notes alongside fresh, fruit-driven aromas. On the palate, it is silky and supple, with fine acidity that brings energy and balance to the wine’s natural sweetness. As a non-vintage White Port, it is crafted for immediate enjoyment rather than extended bottle ageing; store it in a cool, dark place and consume after opening while its freshness is at its best.

Production
The available information does not specify the vineyard sites, terroir or harvesting methods. During production, the grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing extended maceration to preserve their aromatic character. Once the desired level of sweetness has been reached, grape brandy is added to fortify the wine and complete its transformation into Port.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled as an aperitif, where its floral character and refreshing acidity make it particularly inviting. It pairs well with roasted almonds, dried fruit, fresh figs and crisp salads, and can also be enjoyed in a White Port cocktail. Serve at approximately 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle shortly before serving allows its aromas to develop in the glass.

Producer
Burmester traces its origins to Henry Burmester and John Nash, who founded a grain-trading company in London in 1730. The business moved to Vila Nova de Gaia in 1750, where it began shipping Port to the British Isles and across Europe. The Burmester family’s commercial and financial importance in London was commemorated by Burmester Road in Wimbledon, while the house remains closely associated with the historic Port trade of the Douro region.
