Description

Burmester Porto Vintage 2011 is a classic Portuguese fortified wine, offering remarkable depth, vibrant fruit and elegant structure. Produced by one of Porto’s historic houses, it combines a rich heritage dating back to the 18th century with the concentration and freshness expected from a fine vintage Port.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep, intense colour with attractive purple nuances. Its nose is delicate yet expressive, revealing generous red-fruit aromas alongside blackcurrant and a subtle hint of raisins. On the palate, the fruit becomes even more pronounced, supported by lively freshness and refined tannins. Complex, energetic and expressive, it finishes with impressive length. With careful cellaring, this Vintage Port can develop further complexity and harmony over many years, while also offering considerable pleasure when enjoyed young.

Production
After fermentation, the wine is fortified with grape spirit to preserve its natural sweetness and fruit character, then matured in wooden casks. Vintage Port is typically bottled between the second and third year after harvest, allowing its concentrated fruit and structure to evolve further in bottle. Specific vineyard and harvesting details are not provided for this bottling.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, ideally at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, particularly for a mature bottle, as Vintage Port may form sediment and benefits from a little aeration. It is an excellent match for rich chocolate desserts, blue cheeses and firm, mature cheeses, but is equally rewarding on its own or alongside a good cigar.

Producer
The Burmester family name derives from the German word “Burgmeester”, meaning mayor, and the family originated in Mölln in northern Germany. In 1730, Henry Burmester and John Nash founded a grain-trading business in London as Burmester & Nash. The company moved to Vila Nova de Gaia in 1750, where it began exporting Port to the British Isles and the rest of Europe. Burmester’s commercial and financial activities were highly regarded in London, and the family is commemorated by Burmester Road in Wimbledon. Today, the house remains closely associated with the long tradition of Port production in the Douro region.
