Description

Burmester Late Bottled Vintage Port 2019 is a richly flavoured, single-vintage style of Port that combines ripe fruit with a smooth, polished texture. Produced by one of Portugal’s historic Port houses, it offers an approachable alternative to Vintage Port while retaining impressive depth, complexity and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a lively ruby-red colour with an attractive purple rim. On the nose, it reveals expressive aromas of wild berries, ripe plums and balsamic nuances, creating a fragrant and layered first impression. The palate brings the same vibrant wild-fruit character, supported by a rich, soft and complex mouthfeel. Noticeable tannins provide structure and balance, while the generous fruit makes the wine enjoyable in its youth. It is ready to drink now, but should develop further complexity over the coming years when stored in a cool, dark place.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, ideally at around 14–16°C, to preserve the freshness of the fruit and keep the sweetness balanced. This LBV is an excellent match for peppered filet mignon, veal with béarnaise sauce and rich, mature cheeses such as Camembert. It also pairs beautifully with desserts featuring chocolate and mint or pear and chocolate. Decanting is not always essential for a Late Bottled Vintage Port, but it can help separate any sediment and allow the wine’s aromas to open before serving.

Producer
Burmester’s history dates back to 1730, when Henry Burmester and John Nash founded a grain-trading company in London. In 1750, the business moved to Vila Nova de Gaia and began shipping Port to the British Isles and markets across Europe. The Burmester family’s commercial and financial activities were highly regarded in London, where Burmester Road in the Wimbledon area is said to commemorate the family name. Today, Burmester remains an established and respected name in the Port region, with a long-standing connection to the production and trade of Portuguese fortified wine.
