Burmester 40 Years Old Tawny Port is a mature, richly layered expression of Portugal’s Douro Valley, presented in its original gift tube. Rather than representing a single vintage, this non-vintage bottling is a carefully assembled blend of aged Ports, offering remarkable depth, complexity and the refined character associated with extended wood ageing.

Tasting Notes
Deep amber-gold in appearance, this aged Tawny Port shows an expressive nose of dried fruit, toasted nuts, caramel and delicate spice, with hints of orange peel and vanilla. The palate is full and silky, balancing flavours of walnut, raisin, fig and toffee with a lively freshness that keeps the wine poised and elegant. Its long, warming finish reveals further layers of dried fruit, spice and nutty oak. Thanks to its maturation before bottling, it is ready to drink now and does not require further bottle ageing. Once opened, it is best enjoyed within several weeks when stored in a cool, dark place.

Production
Produced in Portugal’s Douro Valley from traditional Port grapes and matured for an extended period in seasoned wooden casks, where gradual oxidation develops its characteristic amber colour, mellow texture and complex nutty flavours. As a 40-year-old Tawny Port, the wine is a blend representing an average age category rather than a single harvest year, and is released as a non-vintage bottling.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 12–14°C. This Port is excellent with crème brûlée, pecan tart, caramel desserts, aged cheeses and desserts featuring dried fruit or chocolate. It can be enjoyed without decanting, although a brief rest after opening allows its aromas to unfold.
