Description
Brogsitter’s Baden Vulkanfelsen vom Löss Chardonnay 2023 combines the expressive character of German Chardonnay with the distinctive influence of Baden’s volcanic and loess-rich soils. Its polished style, fine lees complexity and refreshing citrus profile make it equally appealing as an aperitif or alongside aromatic cuisine. The wine comes from Brogsitter Weingüter, a family-run estate with more than 400 years of history in German winegrowing.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, sun-yellow colour in the glass. On the nose, it offers inviting aromas of ripe honeydew melon, grapefruit and freshly cut hay, creating a balance between fruit richness and refreshing herbal-citrus nuances.
The palate is elegant and finely textured, with ripe melon character complemented by lively grapefruit freshness. Maturation on the fine lees adds depth, smoothness and a subtle layer of complexity without overwhelming the wine’s clean, modern profile. It is delicious in its youth, while careful short-term cellaring should allow its texture and lees-derived character to develop further.
Production
The name Vulkanfelsen vom Löss points to a vineyard environment shaped by volcanic rock and loess soils, a combination that can provide both mineral structure and generous fruit expression. The Chardonnay is harvested and vinified with a focus on preserving freshness and varietal character. Maturation on the fine lees is an important part of the style, contributing to the wine’s elegance, complexity and supple mouthfeel. Specific harvesting methods and details of fermentation are not provided.
Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is particularly well suited to Asian cuisine, especially dishes featuring coconut, curry and aromatic spices. It also works beautifully with lightly spiced seafood, poultry or vegetable dishes, and is enjoyable on its own as an aperitif. Serve lightly chilled at approximately 9–11°C. Decanting is not necessary, although briefly allowing the wine to breathe in the glass can reveal additional aromatic detail.
