Description
Bric Cenciurio Barolo Coste di Rose Riserva 2017 is a finely structured, single-cru Barolo that showcases the pure character of Nebbiolo from one of the appellation’s most expressive vineyards. Crafted only from a strict selection of the best grapes in Coste di Rose, this Riserva channels both power and finesse in a distinctly elegant style. Drawn from a historic hillside in the heart of Piemonte, it reflects the long heritage of Barolo while offering a modern sense of precision and clarity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo Riserva shows a luminous garnet core with brick-tinged edges that hint at its evolution and classic Nebbiolo character. The nose is lifted and complex, with notes of dried rose petals, violet, red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange, interwoven with hints of licorice, anise, sweet spices, cedar and a subtle undertone of earthy truffle and tobacco.
On the palate, it is both refined and substantial: fine, chalky tannins frame flavors of sour cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and cranberry, layered with savory notes of leather, dried herbs and a touch of balsamic. The acidity is vibrant and linear, giving the wine tension and length, while the finish is long, elegant and gently spicy. As a Riserva, this 2017 has the structure for extended aging; it is already approachable with some aeration, but will continue to gain complexity and tertiary nuances over the next 10–15 years or more, depending on storage conditions.
Production
Coste di Rose is a celebrated Barolo cru noted for its predominantly sandy, calcareous soils and well-exposed slopes, which tend to produce highly aromatic, finely textured expressions of Nebbiolo. Bric Cenciurio carefully selects parcels within this hillside that best express the site’s character, harvesting by hand to ensure only the healthiest, most concentrated bunches make it into the Riserva. The grapes are typically destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, with a prolonged maceration on the skins to gently extract color, tannin and aromatics. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for an extended period in large oak vessels and/or traditional casks, followed by additional bottle aging, to meet and exceed Barolo Riserva requirements and to allow the tannins to integrate while preserving the vineyard’s distinctive perfume.
Food & Serving
This Barolo Riserva is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef or veal, osso buco, game birds, roasted lamb, and classic Piedmontese specialties like brasato al Barolo, tajarin with truffle, or mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano or mature Castelmagno. Serve at 16–18°C (61–64°F) in large Burgundy or Nebbiolo glasses to allow the aromatics to fully open. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to soften the tannins and reveal the full complexity of the Coste di Rose vineyard.
