Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Les Quarts ZEN shows a luminous, pale gold color with greenish highlights, hinting at both ripeness and freshness. The nose is vibrant and detailed, offering layers of ripe citrus, white peach and pear, interwoven with notes of acacia blossom, crushed stone, and a subtle saline edge. With air, more complexity emerges: hints of almond, fresh butter, and a gentle spice from the mineral-rich soils. On the palate, the wine is precise yet generous, with a lovely tension between ripe fruit and a firm, chalky backbone. Juicy citrus, stone fruit and a touch of ripe apple are framed by a mouthwatering acidity and a distinctly mineral, almost saline finish that lingers with finesse. The low-intervention “ZEN” approach brings a sense of clarity and vibrancy, with no heaviness and no obvious oak imprint, just pure terroir expression. 2019 has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for 8–12 years from vintage, evolving toward more nutty, honeyed and truffled nuances while retaining its underlying freshness.

Production
Les Quarts is one of the star vineyards of Pouilly-Vinzelles, a south-facing slope in the Mâconnais with thin, stony soils laced with pebbles and iron-rich clay over limestone bedrock. Here, 50- to over 80-year-old Chardonnay vines dig deep into the subsoils, naturally limiting yields and concentrating flavor. La Soufrandière is farmed biodynamically, and the Brets favor meticulous hand-harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches are brought to the cellar. The “ZEN” cuvée is vinified with a minimalist philosophy: gentle pressing, native yeast fermentation, and élevage on fine lees, typically with very little or no added sulfur, to preserve purity, texture, and a transparent sense of place.

Food & Serving
This Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts ZEN 2019 is an excellent match for refined dishes such as seared scallops, grilled lobster, delicate white fish with beurre blanc, or roast chicken with herbs and lemon. It also pairs beautifully with Comté, aged goat’s cheese, or vegetable dishes featuring mushrooms and cream. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to balance freshness and aromatic complexity. A short decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, revealing more depth and nuance.
