Botter, Doppio Passo Riserva 2021

Botter Doppio Passo Riserva 2021 is a rich and polished Primitivo from Manduria in Puglia, made from grapes allowed to reach full ripeness on the vine. With 24 months of maturation, including more than nine months in oak, it combines the grape’s naturally generous fruit with refined notes of spice and vanilla. Primitivo has deep roots in southern Italy and is closely related to California’s Zinfandel, making it one of Puglia’s signature varieties.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows an intense ruby-red colour. Its generous, fruit-driven nose reveals ripe blackberries, cherries and plums, complemented by warm, spicy nuances of vanilla and cinnamon from the oak maturation. On the palate, it is soft, full-bodied and richly concentrated, with plush dark-fruit flavours balanced by a rounded, gently spiced finish. The 2021 vintage is ready to enjoy now, while its structure and oak ageing should allow it to develop further over the next few years when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The grapes are sourced from the warm, sun-drenched Salento area around Manduria, where the Mediterranean climate helps Primitivo achieve its characteristic richness and intensity. The fruit is left to ripen fully on the vines before being vinified into a deeply coloured, fruit-forward red. The wine then matures for 24 months, with more than nine months spent in oak barrels, which contribute its smooth texture and notes of vanilla and cinnamon.

Food & Serving
A natural match for hearty dishes such as grilled or braised beef, roast lamb, game and richly flavoured sausages. It also pairs well with aged cheeses, pasta with slow-cooked meat sauces and traditional Puglian cuisine. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant of 30–60 minutes can help open the wine and soften its generous, full-bodied character.
