Description

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux is the rare white wine of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, offering a refined counterpoint to its famous red wines. Produced in very limited quantities, it is prized for its purity, aromatic intensity and remarkable ability to combine freshness with depth. The wine reflects Château Margaux’s long history, which dates back to the 12th century, and the estate’s enduring reputation for excellence.

Tasting Notes
Bright and luminous in appearance, the 2023 vintage opens with expressive aromas of citrus zest, white peach, pear and fresh herbs, complemented by subtle floral and mineral notes. On the palate, it is energetic and precise, combining crisp acidity with a silky texture and concentrated flavours of lemon, grapefruit, stone fruit and a delicate saline finish. Though already approachable in its youth, Pavillon Blanc has the structure and freshness to develop gracefully in bottle. With careful cellaring, it can gain additional complexity, revealing more developed notes of preserved citrus, honey, herbs and subtle toast over the coming years.

Production
The wine is produced from carefully selected Sauvignon Blanc grown on Château Margaux’s gravel-rich soils, which encourage excellent drainage and help deliver both concentration and freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand in several passes to ensure optimal ripeness and selection. In the cellar, the fruit is handled with precision and fermented gently, followed by maturation in oak to add texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s vibrant freshness and distinctive aromatic character.

Food & Serving
Pavillon Blanc pairs beautifully with seafood and shellfish, including oysters, lobster, crab and grilled prawns. It is also an excellent match for delicate fish dishes, sushi, goat’s cheese and lightly seasoned poultry. Serve well chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential for the young 2023 vintage, although a brief decant or serving in a large white-wine glass can help reveal its full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious estates and a leading property of the Médoc. Its vineyards cover approximately 265 hectares, with around one third planted to vines, primarily on the gravel and clay soils characteristic of the area. The estate is best known for its powerful yet graceful red wines, while Pavillon Blanc represents its highly sought-after white wine tradition. Château Margaux combines generations of winemaking knowledge with modern technical innovation and remains one of the region’s most influential and acclaimed producers.
