Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block 2024 is a powerful, richly layered South African red from one of Franschhoek’s most respected estates. Celebrated for its expressive fruit, aromatic intensity and polished structure, it reflects Boekenhoutskloof’s distinctive interpretation of Rhône-inspired red wine while remaining unmistakably South African. The estate was founded around three centuries ago by French Huguenots, adding a notable historical dimension to this modern classic.

Tasting Notes
The wine opens with an exceptionally perfumed nose of ripe red and dark berries, violet and vibrant white pepper. On the palate, generous, mature fruit develops into layers of cardamom, cumin, clove and whole black peppercorns. Concentrated yet balanced, it is supported by fresh acidity, structured tannins with a cocoa-powder character and a refined cedar note. The finish is long, velvety and full of flavour. Its concentration and structure suggest that it can develop further with careful cellaring, while already offering impressive drinking pleasure.

Food & Serving
A full-bodied, evening-worthy red, The Chocolate Block is an excellent match for grilled meat, roast beef and slow-cooked beef stews. Its depth also makes it a natural partner for mature, hard cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decanting for approximately 30–60 minutes is recommended to allow the wine’s layered aromas and generous fruit to fully emerge.
