Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon 2021 is a striking white wine from Franschhoek that combines richness, precision, and a distinctly mineral edge. Crafted by one of South Africa’s most respected producers, it reflects both the historic depth of the estate and the modern vision of winemaker Marc Kent.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful straw-yellow colour. The nose is layered and expressive, with fresh lemon, ripe pear, orange blossom, mild lemon cream, and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is rich yet elegant, with a lively, mineral drive and a clear presence of oak adding notes of vanilla and almond. The finish is long, dry, and nutty, unfolding with peach blossom and a subtle hint of marzipan. This is a complex Sémillon with excellent balance and the structure to evolve gracefully over time, gaining further depth and savoury complexity with age.

Production
Boekenhoutskloof is based in Franschhoek, in South Africa’s Western Cape, where the estate has long been associated with some of the country’s top wines. The historic property was founded by French Huguenots more than three centuries ago, and that heritage remains part of its identity today. Winemaker Marc Kent brings an international perspective to the cellar, drawing inspiration from Northern Rhône vineyards such as Cornas, while shaping wines that remain firmly rooted in South African terroir.

Food & Serving
This Sémillon pairs beautifully with rich seafood, roast chicken, creamy vegetable dishes, and shellfish such as scallops or lobster. It also works well with lightly spiced Asian cuisine and dishes featuring toasted nuts or beurre blanc. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if you want the wine’s aromatic depth and texture to open up further.
