Bodegas Valduero Una Cepa I 2020 is a distinctive Ribera del Duero red created to showcase the full potential of Tempranillo from exceptionally low-yield old vines. Produced from hand-selected grapes in one of the region’s most prized vineyard areas, it reflects both the precision and pioneering spirit that have defined Valduero since 1984.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep, concentrated colour, hinting at its intensity and depth. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe dark fruit at the core, supported by elegant oak notes and the savoury complexity that comes from old vines and careful ageing. On the palate, it is likely to be powerful yet refined, with impressive concentration, firm structure and a long, persistent finish. The wine’s low yields and extended maturation suggest excellent ageing potential, allowing it to develop further nuance over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from bush vines in Ribera del Duero’s high-altitude “Golden Triangle,” between Gumiel de Mercado and Villanueva de Gumiel, where the cooler elevations and poor soils naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. The vineyard is cultivated without irrigation or chemical fertilisers, and each bunch is manually harvested and selected. Vinification involves 9 days of fermentation at 23–28°C followed by 10 days of maceration, then 18 months in oak and a further year of bottle ageing in the cellar.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, slow-braised dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and structure to open fully.
