Bodegas Valduero Finca Azaya 2019 is a distinctive Spanish red that reflects the elegance and power for which Valduero is known. Produced by one of the pioneers of Ribera del Duero, it combines old-vine craftsmanship with a modern, gravity-led winery approach, giving the wine a polished, artisanal character. With roots in the region’s “Golden Triangle,” Valduero has helped shape the identity of high-altitude Spanish red wine since the 1980s.

Production
Finca Azaya comes from vineyards in the rolling landscape of Castilla y León, where Valduero produces wines that sit alongside Ribera del Duero in style, while maintaining a clearly individual identity. The estate’s vineyards are planted with bush vines and old vines, yielding only around 3,000 to 4,000 kg per hectare, which helps ensure concentration and depth. Winemaking takes place in an underground, state-of-the-art cellar, and since 2020 the estate has worked fully by gravity, avoiding pumping to preserve fruit quality and a gentle, handcrafted expression.

Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, and rich Mediterranean dishes, as well as hard cheeses and flavorful tapas. Serve it at around 16–18°C to show both its structure and elegance, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to open up the aromatics and soften the palate.

Producer
Bodegas Valduero was founded in 1984 by Gregorio García Álvarez, Yolanda, and Carolina García Viadero, making it a true family-led trailblazer in Ribera del Duero. The estate began acquiring vineyards in 1989 in the famous Golden Triangle between Gumiel de Mercado and Villanueva de Gumiel, at high altitude where the climate helps create wines with freshness and intensity. Today Valduero owns more than 150 hectares of vineyard and is especially respected for its old bush vines, low yields, and commitment to quality-driven, traditional winemaking.
