Bodegas Valduero Blanco de Albillo García 2022 is a rare white wine from one of Ribera del Duero’s true pioneers. Made from the local Albillo Mayor grape, it offers a distinctly regional expression that is both elegant and unusually characterful, reflecting the estate’s commitment to preserving native varieties and artisanal winemaking.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, polished appearance that hints at freshness and finesse. The nose is delicate and expressive, with elegant notes of pineapple and grapefruit, giving the wine an inviting tropical-citrus lift. On the palate, it is refined and juicy, with fine acidity that keeps the wine lively and balanced. The texture is smooth and rounded from aging on its lees, adding subtle depth and a pleasing sense of generosity. Best enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit and freshness, though the lees influence gives it enough structure to hold for a short period in bottle.

Production
Bodegas Valduero works with vineyards in the high-altitude "golden triangle" of Ribera del Duero, between Gumiel de Mercado and Villanueva de Gumiel, at 800–900 meters above sea level. The estate farms more than 150 hectares of old bush vines with naturally low yields, and the Albillo Mayor grapes are vinified in an underground, state-of-the-art cellar. Since 2020, the winery has worked exclusively with gravity flow rather than pumps, preserving purity and supporting a more gentle, hands-on approach. The wine is matured on its own lees to build texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This white wine pairs well with grilled fish, shellfish, roasted poultry, creamy pasta dishes, and mild cheeses, as well as tapas and Mediterranean cuisine. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing it a few minutes in the glass can help the aromas open up.

Founded in 1984, Bodegas Valduero was one of the pioneering wineries in Ribera del Duero and was established by Gregorio García Álvarez together with Yolanda and Carolina García Viadero, the region’s first generation of winemakers. In 1989, the family began acquiring vineyards in one of the highest and most prized areas of Ribera del Duero, helping shape the estate into one of the region’s most respected producers. Today, Valduero is known not only for its acclaimed reds but also for championing Albillo Mayor, a rare local white grape and an important part of the area’s winemaking heritage.
