Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright, vivid red-fruit profile with the freshness and finesse for which Mencía is prized. The nose leans toward wild berries, floral nuances, and subtle mineral and herbal accents, while the palate is defined by energy, precision, and a polished, savory finish. The wine’s vineyard mix and cool late-season ripening in 2020 suggest a well-balanced style with enough structure to age gracefully over the coming years. Production
The wine comes from three old-vine parcels around Valtuille de Abajo and Villafranca del Bierzo: Villegas, Fuente San Lázaro, and Requeixada. These sites vary in soil type, exposure, and altitude, contributing different layers of structure, aromatic lift, and texture, while all are farmed without herbicides under the long-term care of Nacho León. After two days of maceration, fermentation started spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel, preserving freshness and vineyard character. The 2020 vintage combined a hot summer with a cooler late summer, helping the grapes ripen slowly and develop both concentration and aromatic depth.

Food & Serving
This Mencía pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled pork, mushroom dishes, and Iberian charcuterie, as well as richer vegetable plates like eggplant or slow-cooked peppers. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opened young to let the aromatics fully unfold.
