Blank Canvas Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020 is a vivid, small-production Marlborough Pinot Noir with real depth and energy. Sourced from the organically farmed Settlement Vineyard in Omaka Valley and crafted by winemaker Matt Thomson, it combines freshness, power, and a distinctly dark-fruited profile that has quickly made it a standout.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, darker-than-average Pinot Noir colour. The nose opens with black cherry and plum, lifted by orange zest, rose petals, and a subtle touch of oak. The palate is fresh yet concentrated, with a core of dark fruit, black tea, and gentle spice. Despite its intensity, it remains poised and refined rather than heavy. While enjoyable now for its vibrancy, it should also develop nicely over the next few years as the wine gains further complexity.

Production
The fruit comes from Settlement Vineyard in Marlborough’s Omaka Valley, where the vines are farmed according to organic principles. The grapes are hand-harvested, with around 65% of the clusters fermented whole, helping to build structure and aromatic lift. The wine is then matured traditionally in French oak barrels, a classic approach that supports the wine’s natural density without overpowering its fruit.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a strong match for duck breast, roast chicken, mushroom dishes, game birds, or earthy vegetarian plates such as lentil and wild mushroom tart. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if drinking young to let the aromatics and dark-fruited character open up.
