Blank Canvas Escaroth Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020 is a beautifully crafted Marlborough Pinot Noir that combines silkiness, depth, and remarkable concentration from the sustainably farmed Escaroth Vineyard in Taylor Pass. Made from very low-yielding, 20-year-old vines, it captures the intensity of exceptional fruit while reflecting the finesse that has made Blank Canvas one of New Zealand’s most admired boutique producers. The wine’s quality and complexity have drawn comparisons with top Burgundy, and it’s easy to see why.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a lovely ruby-red colour. The nose opens with ripe red cherries, blackberry, red plum, crushed rosemary, and dried spice, all layered with a refined, inviting perfume. The palate is generous and powerful, with a silky texture and plenty of depth. Bright red fruit and spice lead the way through a long, persistent finish. This is a wine at its peak now, but it has the structure and balance to develop gracefully over the next 10 years.

Production
Escaroth Vineyard sits in Taylor Pass, Marlborough, where sustainable farming and dry conditions help produce naturally low yields and highly concentrated fruit. The 20-year-old vines are not irrigated, encouraging deeper root systems and greater flavour intensity. The hand-harvested Pinot Noir is fermented with whole clusters, then matured for a year in small French oak barrels to build complexity and fine structure.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for duck, roasted chicken, lamb, mushroom dishes, and game birds, as well as rich vegetable dishes featuring mushrooms or root vegetables. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking it young to help the aromatics open up.
