Description
Château Beychevelle is one of Saint-Julien’s most admired names, and in this impressive 3L double magnum format, the 2023 vintage offers even more presence at the table and in the cellar. As a 4ème Grand Cru Classé, it combines the polish of a classic Bordeaux with the generosity and age-worthiness collectors look for in a flagship bottle.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 Beychevelle is expected to show a deep, youthful colour with a refined, Cabernet-driven profile. On the nose, look for blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice, wrapped in the estate’s signature elegant style.
On the palate, it should be layered and precise, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a balanced core of dark berry fruit, toasted oak and savoury mineral notes. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and the double magnum format will help it evolve slowly and gracefully over time.
Production
Sourced from the historic terroir of Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Beychevelle benefits from gravel-rich soils that promote drainage and help the vines ripen evenly. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, with vinification typically designed to preserve purity, structure and the finesse that defines the property’s style.
Food & Serving
Best served at 16–18°C, this wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds and mushroom-based dishes. Given the size of the bottle and the wine’s structure, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if enjoying it young, especially to open up its aromas and soften the tannins.
Producer
Château Beychevelle is one of the most historic estates in Saint-Julien, with roots stretching back centuries and a reputation for producing wines of elegance, balance and consistency. As a Fourth Growth from the 1855 Classification, it holds a respected place among Bordeaux collectors and remains a benchmark for the appellation, known for its maritime-inspired label and refined Left Bank style.
