Swirled in the glass, it reveals layered aromas of black cherry, ripe red plum, and wild berries, interwoven with notes of violets, dried rose petals, and a subtle graphite-like minerality. Hints of sweet baking spices, cocoa, and a touch of fine new oak add complexity without overshadowing the fruit. On the palate, the 2021 is medium to full-bodied, with a poised, linear structure that reflects the cooler, more classical character of the vintage. Belair-Monange’s vineyards sit on some of Saint-Émilion’s most revered limestone plateaus and clay-limestone slopes, a terroir that naturally delivers wines of purity, tension, and aromatic lift. The 2021 vintage benefited from careful vineyard management, including rigorous green harvesting and hand-picking at optimal ripeness to preserve balance in a challenging year. After a meticulous sorting of the grapes, fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats, parcel by parcel, to express the nuances of each plot. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with a judicious proportion of new oak, to add structure and complexity while maintaining the clarity of fruit and the signature mineral backbone of the estate.

Belair-Monange 2021 is a superb partner for refined, savoury dishes such as roasted lamb with herbs, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or veal in a red wine reduction. It also pairs beautifully with truffled poultry, mushroom-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Comté or Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C (around 60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and fine structure. When young, decant for about 1–2 hours to soften the tannins and allow the bouquet to fully open; as it matures, a shorter decant or simply allowing the wine to breathe in the glass will be sufficient.
