Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Barolo Serralunga shows a deep garnet core with the characteristic brick-red rim of Nebbiolo. The nose opens with dark currants and black cherries, followed by nuances of sweet orange zest, crushed red roses, and a touch of dried herbs and spice. With a bit of air, earthy undertones, subtle tar, and hints of licorice and warm stones emerge. On the palate, the wine is bold and concentrated, with a firm backbone typical of Serralunga. Flavors of dark berries, black cherry, blood orange, and rose petal are layered with notes of earthy minerality, cocoa, and spicy licorice. Production
Sourced from vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, this Barolo reflects a terroir known for its compact clay-limestone soils and steep, well-exposed slopes, which naturally produce powerful, long-lived Nebbiolo. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only the healthiest clusters are used. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel or traditional vessels with extended maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin, and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian or neutral oak casks for several years to polish the structure and integrate the flavors without overwhelming the purity of the fruit or the expression of Serralunga’s distinctive mineral character.

This Barolo is an outstanding match for rich, savory dishes – think braised beef, osso buco, game meats, truffle risotto, roasted lamb, or aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino.
