Baronesa de Vilar Reserva 2023 is a richly styled Portuguese red from the Douro Valley, offering depth, warmth, and a distinctive touch of history. Crafted by the Van Zeller family, whose name is closely tied to generations of exceptional Port and table wines, it stands out for its 12 months of aging in old Port casks, which gives it a refined, elegant complexity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with a dark purple core. The nose is generous and inviting, opening with black cherry, ripe plum, and blackberry, layered with vanilla, cocoa, warm spice, raisins, chocolate, and a subtle hint of toast from the seasoned Port barrels. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with dark fruit, blackcurrant, and plum supported by ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of mocha, spice, and oak add polish and structure, while the influence of the Port casks brings extra roundness and a luxurious texture without adding sweetness, as the wine remains fully dry. The finish is long, warm, and harmonious, with lingering dark fruit, chocolate, and spice; it should continue to develop gracefully over the next few years.

Produced in the Douro Valley, one of Portugal’s most celebrated wine regions, this Reserva reflects a terroir shaped by steep slopes, intense sun, and old-vine traditions. The wine is aged for 12 months in old Port barrels, a vinification choice that softens the texture and adds subtle complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit and the dry, structured character of the wine.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for grilled beef, roast lamb, game, and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended to allow the aromatics to open and the structure to soften.
