Barbeito’s 10 Year Boal Reserve is a classic medium-sweet Madeira that showcases the island’s signature warmth, complexity, and impressive balance. After a decade of Canteiro aging, it delivers the deep, developed character that has made Madeira one of the world’s great fortified wine traditions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a rich amber-gold hue with inviting depth. The nose opens with layers of nuts, caramel, dried figs, and a subtle touch of wood, lifted by a honeyed sweetness and the unmistakable roasted, toasted edge that defines great Madeira. The palate is smooth and generous, combining medium sweetness with vibrant freshness and savory complexity. Notes of toffee, dried fruit, and gentle spice linger beautifully, while the wine’s long aging gives it a polished, harmonious finish. It is already wonderfully expressive now and will continue to hold well thanks to its fortified structure.

Production
The Boal grapes come from selected vineyards in Campanário, Estreito da Calheta, and Prazeres, areas that benefit from Madeira’s steep, maritime-influenced terroir and long growing season. Following harvest, the wine is aged for 10 years using the traditional Canteiro method, in which barrels rest in warm loft spaces with natural temperature variation that slowly develops Madeira’s hallmark nutty, caramelized flavors.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for almond tart, fruitcake, crème brûlée, caramel desserts, and aged cheeses, but it is equally rewarding served on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine. Serve slightly cool, around 12–14°C, and decanting is generally unnecessary.
