Description
Bad Brothers’ Robertson Pinotage 2021 is an approachable South African red that combines ripe berry fruit with a subtle touch of oak. Made from Pinotage, South Africa’s signature grape variety, it offers a soft, rounded style that is easy to enjoy with food or on its own.
Tasting Notes
The wine is richly coloured, with inviting aromas of strawberries and ripe dark berries, complemented by a gentle hint of wood. On the palate, it is fruity and smooth, with rounded tannins and a supple texture that makes it particularly accessible. The balanced, easy-drinking style is best enjoyed in its youth, although it should remain appealing over the next few years when stored properly.
Production
The grapes come from Robertson, a well-known wine region in South Africa’s Western Cape. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a carefully controlled temperature of 25°C, allowing the wine to retain its fresh fruit character. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to a stainless-steel tank with French oak staves, where it matures for a further seven months before bottling.
Food & Serving
Serve this versatile Pinotage with grilled white meat, smoked meats, burgers, sausages or a selection of medium-aged cheeses. It is best served slightly cool, at around 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, though a brief 20–30 minutes of aeration can help open up the berry aromas and soften the wine further.
