A refined Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso from Azienda Vinicola Prà, the Morandina 2021 combines bright cherry fruit with the added depth and texture created by a second fermentation on Amarone grape skins. Sourced from the Morandina cru in Valpolicella, it reflects Graziano Prà’s signature focus on purity, balance and expressive fruit.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a vivid ruby-red colour with attractive purple highlights. Its nose opens with aromas of black cherries and dried spices, followed by a palate of ripe cherries, plum jam, rhubarb and subtle spicy notes. Fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins provide excellent balance and a defined, structured finish. Enjoyable now for its vibrant fruit and savoury character, the wine should also develop gracefully over the next few years as its fruit, spice and oak elements become more harmonised.

Production
The grapes come from Morandina in Valpolicella, a small, highly regarded cru within one of the Veneto’s most important wine areas. Following the initial winemaking, the wine undergoes a second fermentation using dried grape skins from Amarone, the traditional Ripasso or appassimento method. The maceration lasts approximately five days, after which the wine matures for 12 months in French Allier oak barrels. Specific harvesting methods and grape varieties are not provided.

Food & Serving
A natural match for pasta with red-meat sauce and risotto all’isolana prepared with Veronese sausage and black pepper. It also pairs beautifully with mature charcuterie, including Pata Negra and Serrano ham. Serve at approximately 16–18°C; decanting is optional, though 20–30 minutes of aeration can help open the wine’s fruit and spice aromas.

Graziano Prà has been involved with the family business since the early 1980s, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who shaped his vocation as a winemaker. Through his work with estates and crus such as Monte Grande and Monte Bisson in Soave and Morandina in Valpolicella, he has helped bring international attention to these distinctive sites. Respect for the land and purity in the glass remain central to his approach, with a cellar style that aims to highlight the natural character of the fruit.
