Description

A refined Valpolicella from Azienda Vinicola Prà, the Morandina 2023 reflects Graziano Prà’s commitment to purity, balance and respectful work in the vineyard. Produced from grapes lightly dried for 20 days, it combines vibrant red-fruit character with elegant tannins and a gently spicy finish. The wine comes from Morandina, one of the small, highly regarded crus that has helped establish Prà’s reputation beyond the Veneto region.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a clear red colour with attractive purple highlights. Its nose is expressive and fresh, offering aromas of ripe red fruit alongside subtle notes of spice. On the palate, it is elegant and well structured, with fine, persistent tannins supporting flavours of black pepper and blackcurrant. The finish is long and pleasantly savoury, with the fruit and spice remaining in balance. This is an approachable vintage with enough structure to develop additional complexity over the next few years. It is best enjoyed while its fresh fruit and refined tannins are prominent, or after short-term cellaring for a rounder, more integrated expression.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Morandina in Valpolicella, a respected vineyard area within Prà’s portfolio of distinguished sites. After a light 20-day drying period, the grapes are destemmed and crushed before fermentation using the délestage method, which helps promote gentle extraction and finesse. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation in vertical stainless-steel tanks, after which the wine matures in 20-hectolitre oak casks for 3–6 months, preserving its fruit-led character while adding subtle depth.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Its combination of red fruit, fine tannins and peppery freshness makes it a natural partner for roasted poultry, grilled pork, veal, pasta with ragù, mushroom dishes and moderately seasoned cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but a short 20–30 minute decant can help open the aromas, particularly when serving the wine in its youth.

Producer
Azienda Vinicola Prà is guided by Graziano Prà, who has been involved in the estate since the early 1980s, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. His work has brought international recognition to celebrated sites including Monte Grande and Monte Bisson in Soave and Morandina in Valpolicella. Respect for the land and a focus on purity define the estate’s approach, while Graziano remains closely involved in winemaking decisions and favours cellar practices that allow the fruit to take centre stage.
