Azienda Agricola Cornarea, Roero Nebbiolo Santa Margherita 2022

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a vibrant ruby-red colour. Its complex bouquet is marked by spice and an appealing balsamic character, with hints of eucalyptus adding freshness and aromatic depth. On the palate, it is warm, flavourful and elegantly structured, with light, polished tannins. Juicy berry preserve and soft fruit give the wine an inviting character, while a mineral note provides length on the finish. Already enjoyable for its approachable, rounded style, the wine should gain further harmony with short- to medium-term bottle ageing. Its balanced structure and Nebbiolo character also give it the potential to develop additional savoury and tertiary notes over the coming years.

Production
Cornarea is located in Canale, surrounded by the rolling hills of Roero in Piedmont, northern Italy. The estate farms approximately 15 hectares planted with Arneis and Nebbiolo. Details of the harvesting method are not specified, but the wine is matured for 18 months in large wooden casks, followed by at least six months of bottle ageing before release. This combination preserves the fruit while allowing the wine to develop a supple texture and greater aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
A versatile choice for the table, it pairs particularly well with roasted or grilled red meats, braised dishes, game and mature cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. The wine can be enjoyed without decanting, although 30–60 minutes in a decanter may help open its spice, balsamic aromas and mineral character, especially when served young.

Producer
Azienda Agricola Cornarea is based in Canale, in the centre of the Roero region. In the mid-1970s, Piero and Francesca helped revive the local Arneis grape by planting it on the estate, at a time when the variety was close to disappearing from Roero. Today, their sons Gian Nicola and Pierfranco work alongside them, continuing the family’s commitment to local traditions, native grapes and high-quality wines. The estate’s 15 hectares are dedicated primarily to Arneis and Nebbiolo, making Cornarea an important advocate for Roero’s distinctive wine heritage.
