Description
A bright and approachable Barbera d’Alba from Azienda Agricola Cornarea in Canale, Roero. The 2022 vintage highlights Barbera’s naturally lively acidity and generous red-fruit character, while the estate’s restrained approach keeps the wine fresh, pure and easy to enjoy. Rooted in Piedmont’s long-standing tradition of producing vibrant, food-friendly reds, it offers an authentic expression of the grape and its hillside origins.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a vivid ruby-red colour. On the nose, it is inviting and fruit-driven, with aromas of ripe cherries and plums. The palate is juicy and refreshing, supported by lively acidity and a soft, balanced structure. Its approachable style makes it enjoyable in its youth, and it is best suited to drinking over the next few years while its fresh fruit remains at the forefront.
Production
Azienda Agricola Cornarea is based in Canale in the Roero area of Piedmont, where the estate’s own vineyards occupy hillsides composed of calcareous clay soils. The Barbera grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, and the wine is matured with the aim of preserving its natural fruit and freshness rather than adding pronounced oak character. This careful, low-intervention style allows the grape and origin to remain clearly expressed.
Food & Serving
Serve this Barbera d’Alba lightly chilled, at approximately 14–16°C. It pairs naturally with pasta dishes served with tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, charcuterie and simple Italian fare. Its bright acidity is particularly well suited to savoury, richly flavoured dishes. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although a brief airing before serving can help open the wine’s fruity aromas.
Producer
Azienda Agricola Cornarea is a family estate located in Canale, in the Roero hills of Piedmont. Working with its own vineyards on the region’s distinctive calcareous clay soils, the winery focuses on producing wines that express both their varieties and local origins with clarity. Its fresh, fruit-led Barbera reflects the estate’s emphasis on balanced, accessible wines and the character of Roero’s hillside vineyards.
