Description
Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2021 is a beautifully expressive Oregon Pinot Noir made from some of the oldest vines in the region, and in fact among the oldest in the United States. Jim Maresh takes a restrained, terroir-driven approach, using organic farming and very little new oak to let the fruit and site speak clearly.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a light ruby color that hints at its finesse rather than weight. The nose is lifted and inviting, with cranberry, warm cinnamon, freshly baked cherry tart, black tea, and a touch of rose oil.
The palate is bright and layered, led by cranberry, raspberry, and cherry, followed by Asian spice and subtle notes of earth and stone that reflect the Dundee Hills. It has the kind of balance and energy that should allow it to age gracefully for several years, developing more savory and earthy complexity over time.
Production
Made in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, this Pinot Noir comes from old-vine sites with a strong sense of place, rooted in the volcanic soils that have helped make the area one of the state’s most celebrated wine regions. Jim Maresh farms organically and works with a very light hand in the cellar, including only around 5–10% new French oak, so the wine remains focused on purity, texture, and terroir.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roasted duck, mushroom risotto, herb-roasted chicken, salmon, or dishes with earthy ingredients like morels and truffles. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and decant briefly if needed to let the aromas open up, though it can also be enjoyed straight from the bottle.
Producer
Arterberry Maresh is one of Oregon’s respected Pinot Noir producers, closely associated with thoughtful farming and site-specific wines from the Dundee Hills. Under Jim Maresh, the estate has earned a reputation for producing elegant, transparent wines from historic vineyards, with old vines and minimal intervention at the core of its identity.
