Description
Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 is a striking expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most powerful and respected terroirs. Combining depth, structure, and the signature finesse of the Rousseau estate, it shows why Mazy-Chambertin has long been regarded as one of the Grand Cru vineyards capable of delivering both muscle and remarkable longevity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2009 Grand Cru typically shows a deep, насыщенный ruby hue with youthful concentration still evident in the core. The nose is layered and generous, offering dark cherry, blackberry, and plum, followed by notes of spice, licorice, subtle mocha, forest floor, mushrooms, and a distinct mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and firmly structured, with ripe fruit balanced by bright acidity and fine, persistent tannins. The warm 2009 vintage brings richness and generosity, while Rousseau’s precision preserves elegance and detail. This is a wine with excellent aging potential; it is highly enjoyable now with proper aeration, but it should continue to gain complexity and tertiary nuance over the next decade or more.
Production
Mazy-Chambertin is one of the notable Grand Cru sites in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for producing Pinot Noir with depth, power, and a slightly more robust character than some neighboring crus. The warm, sunny 2009 vintage yielded beautifully ripe fruit, and Domaine Armand Rousseau’s careful approach in both vineyard and cellar helped retain balance, structure, and freshness. The result is a wine that reflects both the richness of the vintage and the intensity of this exceptional Burgundy terroir.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for refined dishes with depth of flavor, such as roasted duck, pigeon, game birds, beef filet, braised lamb, or mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with truffle risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic and admired estates, founded in the early 20th century and based in Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine is celebrated for its classical, terroir-driven style and for producing some of the most sought-after Pinot Noirs in the world. With a long-standing reputation for excellence and a portfolio of legendary holdings, Rousseau remains a benchmark producer in the Côte de Nuits.
