Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2013 is a beautiful expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered sites, combining power, precision, and finesse in a way that feels unmistakably Grand Cru. From a challenging vintage came a wine of lifted freshness, fine structure, and the kind of elegance that has made Clos de la Roche one of the great names of Morey-Saint-Denis.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a refined ruby core with bright clarity and subtle depth. The nose opens with fresh red berries such as cherry and raspberry, layered with forest floor, delicate floral notes, and a touch of spice. The palate is graceful and tightly woven, with fine, well-integrated tannins, vivid acidity, and a mineral backbone that gives the wine real definition. It already offers pleasure for those who enjoy mature, nuanced Burgundy, but it also has the structure and balance to develop beautifully over further cellaring.

Production
Clos de la Roche lies in Morey-Saint-Denis, where the vineyard’s stony soils and prime Grand Cru exposure help produce Pinot Noir with both concentration and tension. The 2013 vintage was marked by difficult weather conditions, but careful selection and attentive vineyard work resulted in a wine that captures freshness, purity, and a sense of place. Vinification at Domaine Armand Rousseau is traditionally focused and precise, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with dishes that complement its finesse and aromatic complexity, such as duck breast, roasted quail, game birds, mushroom risotto, or veal with a light truffle sauce. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended if opening young, though a mature bottle may only need a gentle pour to preserve its delicate aromas.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s legendary estates, long regarded as a benchmark for Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin and the surrounding Grand Cru vineyards. Founded in the early 20th century and built on a philosophy of precision, terroir expression, and restraint, the domaine has earned an iconic reputation among collectors and Burgundy lovers worldwide. Its wines are celebrated for their purity, balance, and remarkable aging potential.
