In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color hinting at its concentration and maturity. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe blackcurrant, cherry, and blackberry at the forefront, followed by spice, forest floor, liquorice, and subtle truffle notes. The palate is full-bodied and rich, with a round, generous texture and exceptionally silky tannins. Balanced acidity supports the wine’s dense fruit core, while the finish is long and persistent, carrying dark fruit, spice, and a refined mineral edge. It has excellent aging potential and will continue to gain complexity over time, developing more tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and earthy depth.

Production
This wine comes from the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard in the southern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, an area known for producing Pinot Noir with both elegance and power. The warm, sunny 2009 growing season allowed for fully ripe grapes with concentrated flavor and soft tannins, resulting in a wine of remarkable richness and balance. Vinification at Domaine Armand Rousseau is traditionally precise and minimal-intervention in style, allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to remain at the forefront.

Best enjoyed with refined dishes that can match its depth and complexity, such as roast duck, beef tenderloin, game birds, wild mushroom risotto, or truffle-infused dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open up, though older bottles should be handled gently and decanted only briefly if needed.
